Sadie and Chris’s love story started when they met at midtown at a bar called R15 back in 2010, so it seemed only fitting that their engagement session took place at Capital Park in downtown Sacramento. Six years ago, at R15, Sadie was out with a couple friends and was cheering on USA’s soccer team. Chris heard her chanting, “USA! USA! USA!” and decided to strike up a conversation about soccer. As they talked about soccer and what teams they were on, Sadie and Chris realized that the night before, Sadie’s team had played Chris’ team but he just happened to miss the game. Chris attributes his teams’ loss to his absence and assured Sadie that had he been there, his team would have definitely won. After talking even further, they realized they also worked in the same building complex in Gold River! Then, when Sadie ordered a Jack and Coke at the bar, Chris was taken aback and told her that was his go to drink as well. The similarities were too many too ignore and the connection between them seemed instant. They had their first official date at Burgers and Brew and often met at a place with a picnic area and a waterfall which they call their “Waterfall Rendezvous”. They dated for several years and Chris finally knew it was time to propose. He started planning a trip Portland to see Sac Rebublic FC play and wanted to see a few waterfalls while they were there. He kept showing Sadie photo after photo of waterfalls and she said she thought to herself “Wow, he’s realllllly into these waterfalls”. They went to Bridal Veil Falls and had a wonderful time with their family present as well. On their way out, there was a darling bridge that overlooked the falls and Chris took her onto the bridge and asked his family and best friend to take a photo. As they posed for a picture, Chris got down on one knee and asked Sadie to marry him with a beautiful ring. Sadie was so surprised she shouted “are you F*ing kidding me?” while choking back tears and almost forgot to say yes. They were both exctatic to be engaged and couldn’t wait to start planning. Chris later told Sadie that the plane ride to Portland had been one of the longest plane rides ever. He said it was one of the scariest moments ever when he was asked to stow his carry-on, with the engagement ring in it, under the plane. We had so much fun photographing this couple and can’t wait for their September wedding in Sacramento. Capital park was the perfect place for these two and has so much charm and variety. I reccomend using the park and surrounding area for engagement sessions all year round!
